Benzophenone – 3 (INCI : Oxybenzone) is a potent UVA & UVB absorber (primarily UVB but also UVA), protects from sun induced skin aging (UVA), enhances UVB protection of other sunscreens (e.g. Avobenzone, Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate, Octocrylene).

Benzophenone – 4 (INCI : Sulisobenzone) is an ingredient use in some sunscreens which protects the skin from damage by UVB and short-wave UVA ultraviolet light. It is used as a sunscreen agent in cosmetics, shampoos, hair days and hair sprays.

Benzophenone - 4 is approved in the Europe, United States of America and Japan for skin protection, it is widely used in sun protection formulation.

• Relatively water soluble.
• Recommended at low levels (< 0.5 %) as a color protectant for products in clear packages.

Octocrylene (INCI : 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3, 3-diphenyl-2-propenoate) is liquid UVB sunscreen with very good protection potential. It is the highly effective UVB filter, photostabilizer for other sunscreens (e.g. Avobenzone), excellent solvent for solid sunscreens.

• Two percent of Octocrylene corresponds to a SPF of about 6.

Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate (INCI : Ethylhexyl Methoxy Cinnamate; Octinoxate) is a chemical sun blocking agent that absorbs ultraviolet radiation in UVB range. 1 % of OctylMethoxyCinnamate corresponds to a SPF of about 2. Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate is an oil soluble chemical sunscreen agent that absorbs UVB radiation. It does not protect against UVA. It is the most widely used UVB blocking agent in the skin care industry.

Octyl Salicylate, or 2-ethylhexyl salicylate, is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb UVB (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. It is an ester formed by the condensation of a salicylic acid with 2-ethylhexanol. It is a colorless oily liquid with a slight floral odor.
